Multiple Tornado Warnings Sound Sirens in Central Wisconsin

WAUSAU, Wis (WXCO) – A line of tornado warnings moved towards Stevens Point and the Wausau area Thursday evening.

Marathon County 911 received reports of rotation in Stratford by McMillan Thursday night, just before 6 p.m.. Reports of a funnel cloud and it appeared to be on the ground.

Law enforcement also reported seeing a funnel cloud north of Rib Falls. They said it appeared to be bouncing up and down. It may have potentially touched down on H and Cherrywood Lane.

Around 6 p.m. the NWS says ping pong ball sized hail was reported in areas south of Plover and a funnel cloud as well.

WSAW reports a photo and video of a portion of a roof ripped off the Semco building in Merrill. That’s on the west side of town.

At about 6:30 p.m. officers reported rotation north of HWY 153 on Mile Road and also on Pine and Kowalski in Kronenwetter. They say it looked like a funnel cloud headed north. On 153 and Andyrs Lane, also in Kronenwetter, trained weather spotters reported seeing a funnel cloud and said it was unknown if was on the ground.

Marathon county officials also said around 6:35 p.m. a tornado may have touched down by HWY 52 near the Wausau Town Hall. Very strong winds and pea sized hail was seen at the Wausau Downtown Airport.

Ping pong ball sized hail was also reported in Stevens Point and Plover.
