Over 300 scholarships awarded by OACF

OSHKOSH, Wis (WISS) – The Oshkosh Area Community Foundation (OACF) awarded over 300 high school and college students almost a million dollars in scholarships in June. The scholarships are made possible by local donors, businesses, and organizations. They will support students pursuing higher education and career training opportunities.

This year’s recipients represent high school seniors and continuing education students. Scholarships were awarded to students throughout the OACF service area, including Winnebago, Green Lake, Waushara Counties, and the City of Ripon. Awards range from $500 to $29,000, including one-time and renewable awards for one to four years. Many recipients were awarded multiple scholarships.

“Scholarships change lives,” said Cheryl Fowler, Director of Education at the Foundation, in a press release. “We couldn’t be more honored to connect our donors’ generosity to the hopes and dreams of young people in our community.”

OACF serves approximately 15 school districts through multiple counties and communities, said Kate Stel, Marketing & Communications Manager of OACF. “ The Oshkosh Area Community Foundation serves a pretty wide geographic range,” she said. “We are all of Winnebago County, all of Waushara County, Green Lake County, and the City of Ripon. So it’s Oshkosh area, et cetera.”

Bill Wyman, executive director and CEO of OACF, said the foundation is dedicated to helping the communities support their members and residents.

“What we’re really doing is we’re helping those communities develop a way to give out scholarships,” Wyman said. “Because most of these scholarships that we’re giving, like in Berlin or Princeton or GreenLake, or the smaller communities, those are the people from those communities that are actually supporting their schools. We’re just kind of the administrator in helping them develop a plan so that they can continue to help their own.”
