WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WFHR / WIRI) – For the third year in a row, the Wisconsin Rapids Rangers American Legion Baseball team has two All-Stars on its roster.

Freeman, Simonsen named Ranger All-Stars

Wisconsin Rapids graduates, Landyn Freeman and Brett Simonsen were selected to participate in the 53rd annual All-Star weekend from August 9 to August 10.

Freeman and Simonsen will partake in banquets and ceremonies over the two-day affair. The event culminates in the game that will take place at American Family Insurance Field in Milwaukee. It will begin at approximately 5 p.m., happening after a game between the New York Mets and Milwaukee Brewers.

Rafters send one to NWL festivities

Despite a tough season to this point, the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters still are being recognized for strong individual play.

The Rafters have one athlete participating in the Northwoods League All-Star game and Home Run Challenge. It’s being held from July 15 to July 17 in Madison, Wisconsin.

Noah Ruiz, a junior from Biola University, has been selected to compete in both the game and challenge.

Ruiz is an infielder hosting a .311- batting average. He is tied for the lead in home runs on the Rafters with four. Ruiz also leads the team in runs batted in with 34 and is tied for second in walks with 23.

Rafters stumble to begin the second half

After winning two of its first three games to begin the second half of the season, the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters have fallen on tough times again.

The Rafters have dropped seven games in a row for the second time this season with four games remaining before the All-Star game break.

After a win over Lakeshore on July 3, the Rafters lost to the Chinooks before being swept by Madison, Wausau, and dropped a doubleheader to Fond du Lac on July 9.

Wisconsin Rapids will be home for those four games with two against Green Bay and two more against Wausau.
