I’ve been having a lot of time on my hands with this dumb knee of mine. So while the ice packs have been doing their work, I’ve watched a few series, read a few books, and watched quite a few movies over the last couple of weeks.
Here’s what I watched over the 4th of July holiday weekend.
First, for my fellow scary movie fans. Do you all like creepy children in scary movies as much as I do? They just add another level of uneasy.
Without giving anything away, let’s just run down my “Was this scary movie worth watching” List of Requirements.
*Was there a plot? Yes.
*Was there an ending? Yes. Enough of one for closure which is a must.
*Was it believable enough to be scary? Yeah, I think so. There were definite tense moments and just enough character development for you to care when people started getting whacked.
Not all scary movies are GREAT ones. In fact, very few of them are even GOOD. So as long as a horror movie checks those boxes, I don’t necessarily hate it.
That being said, is There’s Something Wrong With The Children going to knock your socks off and keep you up at night? No. But I’m not mad at watching it. It wasn’t bad.
And if you also like creepy kid scary movies, get ready for this one. I’m really excited and I hope it’s good: Weapons comes out in theaters in August.
That’s one I’d actually consider seeing in theaters.
And then if you like a quirky mystery thriller, there’s Holland. I had seen this one as I was searching around for a thriller or crime drama. Nicole Kidman rarely gives a bad performance but something made me keep passing it by. So I thought- let’s do this, Nicole.
If you liked the quirkiness of the original Fargo movie, Holland kinda gave off those vibes at the beginning but then got real gruesome. That’s all I’ll tell you so nothing is spoiled. So again, not the greatest movie of all time, but not bad. It’s worth a watch.
I’ve got a lot of ice pack sitting time on my hands right now so if you also have a good recommendation, let me know!

Laura McKenna grew up in Ohio and got her first job in radio in La Crosse in 2005. She packed up her stuff, made the move, and has been in Wisconsin ever since! Her favorite season is winter but she loves to spend all summer in her vegetable garden. When she isn't in her pink kitchen cooking up vegetarian recipes, more than likely she's taking bubble baths, reading mystery novels (sometimes while in a bubble bath), cheering for THEE Ohio State Buckeyes, or officiating weddings! She married her best friend from college last year but they still don't live in the same house yet. Laura's favorite way to spend a Friday night is watching Dateline with her cat (Phil Dawson) on her lap. She's thrilled to be back keeping you company during the workday on 105-7 CFW!
