Some things start out feeling like “nice extras,” but once you experience them, they quickly feel essential. Recent surveys show that many people now see comfort and convenience as must-haves, not splurges.

At home, air conditioning is a big one — most people now consider it a basic need. Remember when air conditioning was a luxury option in cars!? Now it’s standard in most all vehicles. Also in cars, features like heated seats and heated steering wheels are surprisingly addictive. Once you have them, driving without them feels uncomfortable. Car radios used to be optional, too.

Services that save time are also hard to give up. Grocery delivery and home cleaning services are popular because they make life easier and less stressful. People who try them often say they don’t want to go back to doing everything themselves.

And when it comes to travel, experiences like first-class flights, nice hotels, and spa days can completely change expectations. I will admit, I have never flown first class, but I heard it’s pretty amazing. For me, sitting in the emergency exit row in a splurge! Many people now prefer spending money on experiences rather than things.

In short, modern luxury isn’t about showing off — it’s about comfort, convenience, and making everyday life easier and more enjoyable. Once you’ve had that, it’s tough to live without it.
